In 2023 we are learning how to better engage with God, His Word, and with other believers. We believe that every verse in the Bible has to do with relationships, so our goal is to better understand how to engage in our relationships biblically. The main scripture which drives this theme is found in Jeremiah 30:21. The chapter discusses Israel’s ability to restore it’s relationship with God if it will simply engage (focus) its attention wholly on God. The church is not Israel, however, the principle can be applied very simply in that, we are all given the opportunity to have a relationship with God if we will simply turn our focus to Him in accepting His free gift of Salvation. This will be the focus of all teaching in 2023.
What are we learning?
– On Sunday mornings during the Sunday School hour we are going through a series called “It’s Not What You Think.” The goal of this series is to help young people understand the shortcomings of our natural, human reasoning. We are addressing such counter-cultural teachings as “Count trials a joy” and “Bless them that curse you.” Perhaps these seem illogical to most when they are considered at face value, but the Bible is very clear about the many blessings that we experience when we begin to follow the example of Christ and seek to be changed by the Word of God rather than be influenced by the desires of our flesh. – On Wednesday Evenings at 5 PM we meet spend time discussing a given topic or book of the Bible. We are currently learning about the book of Proverbs. Proverbs is an ideal book for young people to study because it was originally written primarily by a father named Solomon who was once a king of Israel. He wrote the book for his son in order to impart wisdom and offer help in the ongoing process of maturity. In this series we will take a chapter at a time and begin to understand what wisdom is and how to apply it to life.
What are engage groups?
Engage groups are used on Wednesday nights at the 5 PM meeting to help facilitate an atmosphere of biblical encouragement and learning. Each Wednesday night there is a time of group collaboration and prayer in which a portion of scripture is discussed. This is then followed by a few minutes of every one coming together to share what they have learned.
